FAQ

WHAT IS A COMFORTAIR SEAT CUSHION?

The ComfortAir Seat Cushion has been specially designed to evenly spread and dissipate pressure points that can occur as a result of sitting still for a long time. Its air flotation technology was originally developed – and medically approved – to help provide comfort for people who are bed- or wheelchair-bound.

A strategically shaped network of interconnected air cells instantly shift pressure from one area of the seat to another, resulting in a comfortable cushion of air.

See below for a pressure map of a standard seat, without a ComfortAir seat cushion, after 10 minutes of static use.

The ComfortAir air flotation system clearly helps to alleviate the build up of pressure 'hot spots', providing increased comfort and healthy seating.

AVAILABLE FOR DIFFERENT SEATING NEEDS

Three seat cushions have been created to provide improved seating comfort when used in situations - such as, long distance travel (car, truck, airplane), stadium seats, wheelchairs, and other seated occasions.

wheelchair seat cushion

The ComfortAir Specialised and Leisure Seat Cushion measures 36.5 x 34 cm and is suggested for use in most lifestyle seated occasions. Whether you use a wheelchair or it is necessary to sit for extended periods, the ComfortAir Seat Cushion helps to avoid pain or discomfort due to numbness and concentrated pressure.

Truck seat cushion

This seat cushion comes with a handy shoulder strap, which makes the cushion easy to transport to and from seated occasions, like stadiums, long distance trains, airplanes, or to and from the car or truck.

WHY LOTS OF AIR CELLS AND NOT ONE SINGLE AIR POCKET?

To avoid the creation of ‘hot spots’ caused by area-specific pressure points (pressure results in heat, and heat results in pain).

To prevent this, contact pressure is evenly spread via the cushion’s interconnected air flotation cells. The space between the air cells has been shaped to encourage the flow of air – in through the front of the seat cushion and out of the rear and sides of the cushion. This flow of air cools the air cells and reduces the temperature across the seat.

IS THE COMFORTAIR SEAT CUSHION WATERPROOF?

The ComfortAir seat cushion cover is made using a waterproof (hydrophobic) material across the top of the seat - this is the area on which one would sit.

While the sides of the seat cushion cover are not waterproof. The sides are created using a meshed material to provide the necessary ventilation into, and around, the cushion's bladder of air cells.

SADIUM SEAT CUSHION

As such, while the top of the ComfortAir seat cushion is waterproof, if the cushion cover is exposures to lots of water/rain, then moisture could be retained within, or emitted from, the cover's meshed-ventilated side panels.

HOW CAN I CARE FOR MY COMFORTAIR SEAT CUSHION?

Separate the cushion cover and bladder and hand wash each separately in warm soapy water. Rinse in clean water and leave to air dry on a towel. Do not re-assemble until dry. DO NOT machine wash, spin dry or use solvents of any kind.

The new motorcycle ComfortAir Seat Cushion easily attaches to your motorcycle seat via a set of four elasticated straps

Comfortair motorcycle seat cushion straps

Securely fixed to the seat cushion, these straps run underneath the existing bike seat, with each pair attaching via buckles.

Unlike other motorcycle seat cushions with attachment clips between the seat cushion and the straps, the ComfortAir Seat Cushion enjoys improved protection from opportunistic theft, as it can only be safely taken off by removing the motorcycle seat from the bike.

Where each strap is fixed to the seat cushion, ComfortAir provides comfortable, soft flaps that cover the strap/seat connection to protect the inside of your legs.

Protective sleeves have also been wrapped around each of the elasticated straps to add durability, and there is a protective layer where the strap runs around the edges of your motorcycle seat.

WHY ARE THERE DIFFERENT SHAPED MOTORCYCLE COMFORTAIR SEAT CUSHIONS?

The shape and position of the seat is different depending on the style of motorcycle you ride. A sport rider’s position results in more pressure being applied to the front of the seat, while a cruiser rider’s feet-forward riding position often exerts more pressure towards the rear of the seat. Hence the design of four ComfortAir Seat Cushions, each for a different style of motorcycle and riding position.

Please note: this table is a good guide as to which seat cushion design works for a style of motorcycle, but is only a guide. Due to the varied number of motorcycle models, and the on-going production of new models, we cannot be totally certain that a specific design of seat cushion would be better than another one for your motorcycle or riding position.

Alternatively, measure the width and length of your motorcycle seat contact area (the area where you would normally make contact with the seat when sitting on the motorcycle) and compare this to the provided measurements of each ComfortAir Seat Cushion. The cushion should be able to extend across the width of your motorcycle seat contact area. It is perfectly fine if the ComfortAir Seat Cushion is a little wider than your motorcycle seat contact area, but it is not ideal if the seat cushion is smaller.

  • Adventure / Sport Seat Cushion measures: 30.5 cm (long) x 30 cm (wide)
  • Tourer Seat Cushion measures: 36.4 cm (long) x 34 cm (wide)
  • Cruiser Seat Cushion measures: 38 cm (long) x 33 cm (wide)
  • Pillion Seat Cushion measures: 28.5 cm (long) x 21.5 cm (wide)

HOW DO YOU INSTALL A MOTORCYCLE SEAT CUSHION ONTO A MOTORCYCLE?

Installation is a simple and quick process. Open the valve on the bladder and fully inflate by blowing into the valve until the cells appear full of air. Close the valve. Re-install the bladder into the cushion cover and zip closed. Remove the seat from the motorcycle and position the inflated assembly onto the motorcycle seat where it best matches your riding position. Unclip the attachment straps, pass the free ends under the motorcycle seat and reattach them, taking care that they are not twisted. Tighten the straps using the buckle device to the point where the cushion does not slide on the seat. Do not over-tighten. Re-install the seat on the motorcycle, ensuring that the protective tabs and sleeves are positioned to best effect. Consider using adhesive protective film (not supplied) if the straps are in contact with paintwork.

HOW DO I ADJUST THE MOTORCYCLE SEAT CUSHION TO GET THE BEST COMFORT?

Ensure your motorcycle is well supported on its centre stand and parked on a firm, flat surface. Starting with bladder cells full of air, sit on the cushion in your usual riding position. Locate the valve, carefully opening it to allow the air to escape slowly. Close the valve when you start to feel contact with the motorcycle seat. The purpose of the air flotation technology is to evenly spread your weight across a broad area of the seat, avoiding uncomfortable pressure points and the resultant increase in contact heat. Users for the most part gain greater benefit from being able to just feel the motorcycle seat through the cushion.

When installed correctly the ComfortAir Seat Cushion will look like it has very little air in the bladder. This small amount of air is all it takes to deliver a guaranteed increased in comfort.

If you experience movement between you and the motorcycle seat during a change of direction or speed (a feeling of being ‘disconnected’ from the bike) then the air flotation cushion has too much air. The purpose is not to separate you from the seat, but rather to evenly spread your weight across the largest contact area. Locate the valve and slowly allow more air to escape to gradually increase the contact. Experiment for your own personal comfort.

WHAT SHOULD I BE AWARE OF TO HELP ME USE MY COMFORTAIR SEAT CUSHION SAFELY?

Check the cushion cover, attachment strapping and the bladder at each installation or use. Do not use if there is any sign of damage. Replacement parts and advice are available from your ComfortAir stockist.
When fitting, ensure that no part of the product comes into contact with the motorcycle’s exhaust or sharp edges that could cause damage. Pay particular attention to the attachment strapping and how it and other parts of the motorcycle may be affected when the seat is re-attached.
Throughout the installation ensure the motorcycle is adequately supported on its centre stand and is parked on a firm, level surface.
